Blog: Wellspring Taster Challenge – Collaborative Art Swap

This project was originally for a swap we did as part of our 2020 Wellspring Taster Challenge.

For my contribution to the taster challenge, I decided on a theme based around collaboration.

In the modern world, sometimes we don’t take enough time to connect with other human beings – so many people in our society feel loneliness or isolation. For those battling anxiety, depression or other mental health disorders, feelings of isolation can be even worse as these conditions can create a tendency to shut off from others. But even if you don’t have any of these feelings connecting with another human still has a positive effect. Collaborating with another person in this way can boost your self-worth, you will have a shared positive experience and of course receive a piece of art at the end of the process which has been made especially for you.

For the collaborative aspect of the swap we’ll be asking you to give a colour and word to your partner so they can make you something meaningful. I’d also love you to write a message of positivity on the back of your creation to give the recipient an extra little lift when they receive their art in the post.

I’m swapping with our lovely swap co-ordinator Holly and she chose the colour blue and the word ‘believe’ as my prompts. Your creation will be different from mine, but I’ve included a tutorial here from which you are welcome to take inspiration if you need a jumping off point. I chose to use a butterfly as my focal point because for me it works with the ‘believe’ theme; it’s an aspirational image, she has wings with which she can fly and be free, and she knows how to embrace change.
