Create amazing sgraffito effects that give your artwork tantalising texture!

Scratching the surface of your artwork is referred to as sgraffito, meaning “scratched” in Italian. It is a technique used in pottery, paintings, and glass. The technique consists of putting down a layer, covering it up with another layer, and then scratching the top to reveal what lies below. The sgraffito technique may have its origins in pottery, but it certainly has its place in modern painting! This workshop will guide you through three ways to use sgraffito as we create three different art journal pages. We will build fantastic texture with acrylics and art spray. Next, we will see how to use texture paste and paint combs for a fabulous background effect. Lastly, we will use sgraffito texture to highlight a focal point.
